October 2001

Autumn Vacation 2001

Well it that time of year, where we pack up to do some fall camping. Actually we haven't even attempted to go fall camping since Hollace was born. We cram the car with all our gear (half of which was bought for this trip) and took off Friday afternoon before the Chicago rush. Our goal was to get to Indianapolis which was a nice stopping point on our way to Bowling Green Kentucky. We only made it to Layfette Indiana because we did get stuck in Chicago traffic.

Right before vacation I go the library and check out a kids CD that has a Scooby Doo song on it. Ug, you don't know how many times we had to hear that song on this trip. Hollace is in her carseat chanting, "I want Scooby song, I want Scooby song...". I have since downloaded a few more versions of Scooby's song and have made a CD for future trips. I also added 5 versions of the Speed Racer theme for me. Did you even know there were 5 versions of the Speed Racer theme? ;-)

We made it to Pam's early afternoon on Saturday and met the newest addition to the family, Phillip, who was nearly 4 months old, what a smily little guy.

On Sunday, me, Pam, Hollace and Phillip went shopping. RAW, Shelby and the boys went out to the state park about an hour away, to check out the camping. They set up camp.

Sunday night we were going to go camping but I didn't see the point to driving an hour away in the dark just to get up the next day and come back. We were planning on going to the zoo in Nashville Tennesee. So we drove back to Pam's (we were about 15 minutes away) Me and Hollace spent another night at Pam's while RAW headed to the campsite (he wasn't even sure he would find again). I give him the cell phone in case he gets lost and so that I could reach him. I kind of forgotten that you don't get much service out in the middle of nowhere so I couldn't reach him to tell him not to tear down camp so we all could camp the next night as we will probably not have time to set up somewhere else later.

RAW was suppose to get back early so we all could get to the zoo but didn't show up till noon. He tore down camp. Oh well, whatever.

We go to the zoo late. I don't know if the Nashville zoo is in transition or something because they had NOTHING at that zoo, no animals. Well they had a few, a couple of yapping gibbons, an elephant you can take rides on, couple of eagles and a couple of big cats. That was pretty much it. Hollace wanted to see penguins, no such luck. It was such a beautiful day so it didn't bother us much.

Since we got back later then we planned, we didn't have time to find another campsite like I thought, so here we are, the house guests who almost leave but keep coming back...another night at Pam's.

We finally leave Pam's on Tuesday after everyone left for work/school. Now the weather really sucks, cold, rainy and windy. I sure don't want to camp in that. The night time lows are around freezing. What to do, what to do?

We are heading back up to Indianapolis to stay in a hotel for a few nights, one with a pool. First we stop in one of those visitor centers off the highway to see if we can find a deal for a hotel. We do. We go to the Hampton Inn with a coupon for $39 a night (regularily $79).

Nice hotel and a nice area of Indianapolis. We order in room service just because and use the pool a couple times. The one time we used the pool, some nice looking guy joins us. It becomes apparent that this dude is drunk as he kept repeating himself and rambling on and on. He was trying to convince us to have another kid, he wouldn't let up. He was getting creepy.

On Wednesday we go to the Children's Museum. It was pretty cool. Couldn't get Hollace to leave. If you get to Indianapolis you must go, even if you don't have kids.

Thursday is when we are suppose to pick Paula up at the airport, which is one of the reasons why we are hanging out in Indianapolis. For the most part we weren't sure how we were going to fit her in since the car was packed to the brim (goll darn that freakin huge sleeping bag I bought before we left). Master packer RAW makes room; we pick her up; get a little lunch and start our trek back up north to mom and dad's.

RAW sets up the tent in mom and dad's backyard and sleeps in it the few days we are there. Me and Hollace sleep in the house. Why the heck sleep outside when there is a warm bed nearby. We did get a campfire set up. The weather wasn't as cold as it was.

Grama was giving me more radical child rearing advice. Last time was about giving Hollace an enema to get her to poop on the potty. This time she said I should drop a raw egg in a milkshake for nutrition. She did this with mom and she is ok. Oh geez!

For the most part that is it for our trip. We left Saturday afternoon for home. We come home to 32 messages on our answering machine, all but one is a hang up. Kind of creepy as it didn't sound like computer generated calls. The last "message" was about an hour before we got home but the phone didn't ring after we got home. Must of been a malfunction of the answering machine.

Sunday, Hollace started getting sick. She had a fever and kept saying over and over again, "I not happy". Apparently (after a doctor visit on Tuesday) she had a sore throat, but at least it wasn't strep. I am glad we didn't go camping because I would of been blaming that for her illness. She is back to her perky self.

I have edited my first feature film, well all 2.5 minutes of it. It is 3mbs as either a Quicktime or Windows Media movie or if you have a really fast connection, download the 9mb version. It is worth the download so go check it out.
