Halloween - October 31, 2009 -
Halloween is no excuse for me to eat the way I did today. I really need to go on a sugar fast. H didn’t even go Trick or Treating. She did all the candy handing out. We live on a corner with some kids coming to the side and the others coming to the front so we keep a bowl in both places. H noticed that a lot of kids skipped our house including her BFF which she seen out there but she never did stop over. Weird.
All I ate today was sweet junk. Those Hershey Candy Corn Kisses are true evil that I let near me. I really shouldn’t do that. Maybe tomorrow will have to be a sugar free day. I haven’t been a good WWer lately. Last week I lost nothing but the week before I gained 0.8 lbs. I knew I did bad and ate past my bonus points. I gorged out on apple cider donuts. that week.
This morning I forgot my vitamins and acid reflux med and I am paying for it right now-ug.
Today I just pissed the day away. I didn’t really do anything constructive. I even got up an hour or so earlier then normal. Today seemed to be movie day. This morning put on Fish Called Wanda for some reason. Later put on Edward Scissorhands for Halloween and then on a whim pay per viewed Coraline also for Halloween. I wasted a lot of time watching movies. I am not a movie/TV person rather prefering to waste all my time on the computer instead.
Tomorrow I am writing out a schedule, eating no sugar and not waste time and use the extra hour for good. Also I declare that I ate my last Candy Corn Kiss 15 minutes ago. That is it!

I guess this isn’t really news to me but I was just comparing schools in my county as posted in the Chicago Tribune and our school is like 107 out of 118 in math for 5th grade. Actually I found it interesting that our school’s lowest scores were for 5th grade. The 3rd grade wasn’t too bad but Hollace’s best teacher teaches that grade. Last night I talked to Ms. W (the 3rd grade teacher) while at the Halloween party and she apologized because Hollace just told her she didn’t like her teacher this year. H’s teacher wasn’t recommended by Ms. W or H’s 4th grade teacher. I think however H has the teacher “that sucks the joy out of learning” (according to what Ms W said last year) for advanced reading. First of all H had reading help all these years and was below average. I don’t think she improved all that much over the summer to jump ahead to the advanced class. Her teacher this year wondered about that too but keeps checking and Hollace is holding her own. She will get moved if need be. And Hollace doesn’t like that teacher too much either. We got lucky that we had wonderful teacher for 3rd and 4th, now it is back to reality.
I know anyone reading this post, is probably thinking the school I went to was on the bottom of the list too 
. I don’t care, grade me on grammar, I just wanted to put this scattered post out anyway. In the future the plan for this blog is to write regularly that eventually I will improve in the writing department and become more articulate. Until then, you will have to put up with posts like this.

Music - October 29, 2009 -
I am really liking the free Tuesday music this week. Neither song I like isn’t typical of what I like. Whatcha Say by Jason Derulo is R&Bish. The music video for this (it was the free music video of the week) was cringe worthy and I quickly stripped the song from the video and trashed it. The female vocalist is what is intriguing me. They have her in that over processed style ala Imogene Heap. Now I haven’t really listened to Imogene Heap but I know that is her sound. I might have to go check her out now.
The other free song is their Latin freebie. Mathia Aguyao- Rollerskake. I just like the bumm bumm bumm sound to it.
Last weeks free video is still speaking to me on many levels. Time Flies by Porcupine Tree. First the topic of time is something I have been trying to deal with in both the literal and creative sense. I can’t explain it but that song seem to have. Also the video is done is a style that makes me want to try and emulate in some of my motion graphics.
And lastly on the topic of music. I had a few bucks mad money to spend and wanted to buy something fun. I thought I was going to go with the new Apple Magic Mouse. My Apple store didn’t have it yet so in the meantime I got an updated driver for my current Logitech and now realize that this mouse will always do much more then the Magic Mouse ever could. The only thing the Magic Mouse had going for it was the touch scroll surface. That would be cool if I didn’t already could do that with the track pad of my Mac Book Pro so it isn’t really a selling point. I did get a new keyboard which I love but I still had the money I didn’t spend on the Magic Mouse. I had no clue what I needed or wanted that would be fun. I finally found something. A music keyboard to go with Garage Band. I never try and make music on Garage Band cause the software keyboard sucked but I can see having some fun with this and maybe make some cool music to go with video or something.

Tonight - October 29, 2009 -
Tonight was the school’s little Halloween party. I spray painted Hollace’s hair black as she donned black clothes and purple lipstick. Originally she didn’t want to do anything for Halloween but it slowly evolved to this goth thing. She still plans on not going trick or treating but she wanted to go to the party to hang with friends.
It didn’t take too long before all the black in her hair ended up on her face and hands.
I sat like a bump on a log on the bleachers. They were folded up so I clumsily hoisted myself up so I could sit. I am so graceful, not. I watched an episode of Better Off Ted on the iPod and watched kids run around like crazed animals. It was amazing that I could get enough volume out of my headphones to hear over the noise.
I finally managed to waddle off the bleachers when Hollace was thirsty. Go to stand in line when we realize all they had to drink was water or pop. Hollace hates both and storms off in a huff. Ok fine, you definitely aren’t thirst enough.
It was now time for the costume contest, all her friends went off to stand in the circle but Hollace wouldn’t have anything to do with that. She is definitely not a joiner and definitely doesn’t do what the crowd does. She is very much like me and doesn’t bow down to peer pressure. Not because we are strong and stubborn but more like we are chicken and don’t really care that much. We will see how that goes when she is a teenager.

I wish I was a writer in some ways. I have always admired someone who could put eloquent or witty or deep thought to paper. More importantly in my case though is I am envious of a …..dang, how ironic is that that while writing about writing, I can’t come up with any words.

I just got a new keyboard today. Really I guess I didn’t need one. The one I had wasn’t really that old but it was a gunk catcher. For an Apple keyboard, it wasn’t really thought out very well. The keyboard before that had black keys and I couldn’t see them in the dark as I usually keep my room.
Anyway, this is also an Apple keyboard. I am posting here right now to try it out. It is cute and slim. Too slim actually so I have the box it came in under it so I can type past the wrist guards. Here let me take the box away and see how it types. Hmmm, got to get rid of the wrist guard or something. I just noticed the screws under the wrist guard, maybe I can take it off easily. Why do I always grab the manual screwdriver when I have a lovely battery operated one.
Ok there, got the wrist guard off and I think it is now much better.
I also ordered a new Magic Mouse for the only reason of coolness. I like my current mouse. I went to the Apple store to check it out but they didn’t have them in yet. I then pre-ordered from Amazon.com but canceled my order after reading a not so good review. I will wait until they are in stock to try them out before I order one.
Yep, I think I like this keyboard much better then the old one and it shouldn’t get gross and dirty.
I think I am good, the transfer from iPower to Bluehost is complete. On Friday I pulled the switch to change it over. I got this blog and the family one all set and good to go but the photo blogs still didn’t work and I was at a loss. I finally had to let it go so we could go camping. I was figuring I might have to revert and go back to iPower if I couldn’t get them to work because I have to have my photoblogs and besides that is the whole point of the host change in the first place. Also today is the five year anniversary of the photoblog, I needed to celebrate not be shut down.
On Saturday we camped. It was cold and while driving to look for fall fest fun, it snowed. Last I heard the weather forcast was for 54 and sunny. What the heck was this snow stuff? I just talked to mom and she said she didn’t see anything mentioned in the news about snow yesterday.
We were heading to Marengo for their Settlers days. It ended up being one of those small fairs with carnival rides and games. It was lame and cold. We left. We then headed to Stades Farm where we got exactly what we wanted for a fall fest. Hollace loved the apple cider donuts but the main attraction at least for RAW and Hollace was the pumpkin cannon. It was a good time.
We went back to the campground and fired up the furnace and hunker down. Well me and Hollace did at least while RAW sat outside by the fire.
Today we came home and I figured out what I needed to do to get the photo blogs working and with a quick call to support for one snag, it was successful for at least the main one. I still couldn’t see the photos for the old one, the one that turned 5 today. After I realized that the photos from that blog weren’t completely uploaded, I uploaded and that one was good too.
Hopefully in a few days I can give iPower the heave ho. At the very least they won’t get very far trying to charge my credit card on Oct 23 (the day of auto renewal) cause the card expired.
T0morrow I have off. I just want to hang out but I think a trip to Ikea and Dick Blick is in order.
Oh yeah, with my new host I get a free domain. I am perfectly happy keeping my current domains at GoDaddy so I tried to figure out what I should get for the free one. I was pleasantly surprised that nancysward.com was available so I swooped that up. You can now access this blog with that URL if you want until I can figure out where else I can use it instead.
My stuff is propagating the world to the new web site host. Suppose to take 24-72 hours but it has been only 7 hours or so since I changed the nameservers and I see my blogs might be over here now. This is a test. Suppose to be camping right now but it is too cold and damp. The camper is already at the site 12 miles away. We will go tomorrow.
iPower is driving me friggin nuts. Any of my blogs (this one included) are seriously slow. Last week they had a 12 hour outage which was the push I needed to make my move and find a new host. What a pain in the butt that will be but it will be so worth it in the end providing I pick a good one.
