I am being smothered by my project to do list

Here is everything on it

  1. Kaleidoscope photo gallery to learn CSS5 and JQuery for work and to have a this gallery to repurpose as possibly an iPad app and/or to put on an unused domain
  2. Develop that unused domain. I have had it for a couple years but all of a sudden I must do something with it now.
  3. Create an iPad app, hopefully of the Kaleidoscope gallery.
  4. Make 2 sets of Moo stickers. One with some of my iconic images and one of those Kaleidoscope patterns.
  5. I really should finish up Ode to Toast. The timing just sucks right now. This is something that will go on the new site when done.
  6. I want to learn and master Cinema 4D.
  7. Develop greeting cards, magnets, bookmarks of Toast and Kaleidoscopes.
  8. Make music with Garage Band on iPad because it freaking rocks. (this wasn’t on the to-do list but it should be)
  9. Miscellaneous things like make a phone card for Hollace and resize the old Race video optimized for iPad.
  10. Shoot analog. I acquired a new Polaroid camera and just got some film for it today. Also my Holga has been long neglected. Oh and I should call the Rollei guy to clean up the Rolleiflex

That is enough, I am starting to get carried away. I guess I like to stay overwhelmed with the projects so I do none of them. In the meantime, enjoy this video

Easter Weekend

RAW likes to treat his birthday as a special holiday where we goes off and does his own thing. Unfortunately his birthday fell on Easter this year. He turns 55.

Not only is his birthday on Easter and we go to his mom’s on that day, he is still having incontinence issues and isn’t really up to anything.

My plan was to make a raspberry white chocolate cheesecake while at his mom’s. Since she doesn’t bake or cook, she doesn’t have basic kitchen things like measuring cups and mixing bowls. I suppose I could of found a bowl to mix in but I brought my own in case.

I forgot one thing though, coordinating with her on a cake for her son. She went out and bought a cake for him so I had to decide if I should bother and just wait until I get home. I went to Walmart and bought the non perishables but waited until I knew for sure if I was going to bake there to buy the cream cheese.

I ask Dorothy what kind of cake she bought. She said white. I asked what kind of frosting. She said white. It was a carrot cake. She complains that her sister in law always gets her a carrot cake for her birthday and was sick of it so I wonder if she realized she just got her son one. It had a carrot and said carrot on the top so I can’t help but think she would of noticed.

Now we are home and I will make my cake tomorrow only I forgot I don’t have the perishables so I need to hit the grocery first thing and get this cake going because it calls for 8 hours of refrigeration which probably means we will be eating this thing late which is not what I intended.

New keyboard

Such the geek with a new toy. Because the iPad wasn’t cool enough, I had to go out and buy a little external keyboard to go with it. Amazon said it would come on Monday but I had a stinking feeling it came early.

We just got home from Indiana tonight so we weren’t around. I noticed that Amazon said it was delivered. I went to the door to see if it was sitting outside when I seen a soggy box on the place we keep our shoes. We got a lot of rain this weekend and Barb brought it in. Fortunately the actual keyboard box was wrapped in plastic, the recipe is soggy as is the outside box but all looks good. The last time we were out of town (for RAWs surgery, we came come to a soggy box which contained a book that looked a little water damaged but when I had Amazon send me a new one I discovered that that is just how the book is.

Right now I am typing this entry out with my iPad propped on the coffee table and the new keyboard on my lap. It is much better then typing this on the iPad.

(edited to add: I just noticed the box came at 11:30 on Friday and we left town at noon. Would of been nice if I knew that before we left)

wasting time before bed

Starting on Sunday, I have been trying to ditch the enriched flour and unnecessary sugar. I still have my Tootsie Pop and “fun sized” Hershey but with the exception of yesterday’s dinner of pasta, I have been doing ok.

On Tuesday I woke up to 2″ of snow. It is the 2nd half of April for God’s sake. Where is our spring? This morning there was a snow flake in the air. Shortly after that discovery I nearly creamed someone. I turned left onto 134 like usual. I didn’t see any cars so I went only to realize there was a car. One I narrowly missed by a half second. I have always had a feeling that intersection is an accident waiting to happen.

Our’s or rather RAW’s ordeal

First of all let me catch you up from where we last left off. Dorothy had a plane ticket to Chicago. But did she? She gets to the airport where she finds out the guy got her a ticket for May 31 and not March 31 so nope, no flying for her. Mark and Cathy reintroduced their offer to drive her up here so they did. I met them after work at the tollway oasis and picked her up and brought her home.

Guess what was waiting for me at home? Two pairs of shoes? Yes but big deal. Guess again. Yep, it was the iPad! Phew, I was slightly worried it would be late and no one would be home but it got here. We also found out the surgery the next day wasn’t until 1:00 so we didn’t have to leave that night for the hotel so I could cancel it and then load up the new toy.

Friday morning, we all head out to Chicago for the surgery. The drive in was effortless and the timing was good, no rush hour, got there early enough but not too early.

While RAW was in surgery, Hollace and I go to check into the hotel. The weather was crappy but the hotel was only a block away. It wasn’t our usual place but it should be, they had a really cool lobby, very retro 60’s cool or something. We then headed out to Garretts to stand in line for Chicago mix popcorn then hung out in the hotel for a short bit eating popcorn before heading back to the waiting room where Dorothy remained.

The surgery took 2 hours and the surgeon came out and said things couldn’t of gone any better.

Another 3 hours later he was wheeled into his room where we were waiting. The drugs were good and he seemed ok.

Then the pain in his shoulder started. He had a horrible night because of it. It brought him to tears, it was that bad. They mentioned that he might have a sore shoulder because of the gas and the position they had to put him in.

Later that night, Hollace and I run around Michigan Ave in the cold rain. Hollace proclaims she likes to walk and likes the energy running around the city, just not all the people.

At 7:30 the next morning he called requesting some 7-Up, crackers and something else I can’t recall.

Saturday of course we hang out in his room, he is in pain from the shoulder but nothing else. At some point Hollace and I take off again to walk the city. There is only so much hanging around we can do in the hospital and it is still Hollace’s spring break, try to make it a little fun for her. We walk and walk and run into International Pillow Fight day at the moment it begins. We also see a marshmellow peep car handing out free samples.

Later in the afternoon we get the word RAW can check out. I cancel my plan B hotel scenario in case he had to stay. I go out to the Johnny Mathis floor of the parking garage and bring the car around and take everyone home. His shoulder is ok now at least.

For the next 10 days RAW has to wear a catheter. It is definitely weird to see a tube coming out of his pee-pee and to see the bag of pee he has hanging around all the time. The drugs are good keeping him in a good mood and very appreciative. He was so thankful. For the most part those 10 days were happy ones. Of course RAW probably doesn’t think so. I feel he is being such a good patient that alleviates any fear I might have if I ever have to have surgery. Heck I was worried because if the guy gets a common cold he is horribly whinny but none of that with the bigger deal surgery. I was impressed.

Friday, time to send Dorothy home. Got her a ticket for the 8:50 am flight out. I get up 30 minutes early so I can get her to the airport before work. The timing is again perfect and I drop her off. At work I monitor her flight and about 30 minutes before it is to take off it gets canceled! She tries to get on the 10:45 flight to no avail. I guess she didn’t get in line soon enough or something so she is now booked on the 4:00 flight. I again monitor the flight and again about 30 minutes before the flight they cancel that one too! Now what? I call her and scoop her on that one. There are no more flights to Fort Wayne. They offer to fly her to Indianapolis. Yeah right, geez. She has sat at the airport for 9 hours now. I leave work and go pick her back up. I told the woman that has been wheeling her around that I will pick her up at the Arrivals. I go around, no sign of them. They tell me to call when I get there but the security tells me to move along. I go around again, still nothing. Finally I find out they are at Departures, one more time around and I find them.

Monday I have off because I need to get RAW to Chicago to remove the catheter. We take Dorothy to the airport on the way (timing again is perfect). He gets the tube pulled, he look for lunch and then go home.

Now it is Wednesday and all hell has broken loose. RAW has no control over his peeing and is getting very upset and wet and sore and rashy. It is a nightmare. I really, really hope he gets the control back because he is doing a lot of laundry and yelling, cursing and what not. I ask him if he has been doing his kegals, I guess not. Dang, he should be doing those constantly, why he isn’t I have no idea.

I am kind of peeved with his doctor, they didn’t really prepare him at all with the after effects he is having. Yes they mentioned some incontence and sure a lot of guys just have a little leaking but a lot of guys have pouring and he is one of them. They should of told him a worse case scenario. I really feel for the poor guy. It better get better soon.

April Fools day joke on me?

Today is the day of RAW’s surgery so I have the day off. I woke up one minute after I would normally get up. Why that is weird is that I didn’t unset my alarm, it should of went off as usual.

Obsession

Obsession is constantly hitting refresh on FedEx’s page trying to get my iPad out of Anchorage. It didn’t work. It wasn’t until we went out of eat and I hadn’t check for a couple hours did it depart. It now has left Alaska! I won’t let up on the refresh button until it is in my hands which better be tomorrow like promised.

Last we left Dorothy and her plans, she was going to take the train to our house. I started to worry what she would do once she got off the Amtrak. She was determined to go to the hotel only we weren’t going to be there. I was going to have to tell her how to get to the Metra which is about 20 feet from Amtrak but nonetheless.

After worrying enough about it I decided to call her. She was now flying in. After a test run to Waterloo to look for hotels, she couldn’t find them (I never said they were in Waterloo) so she abandoned that idea and went to the airport and scored herself a non-stop ticket for $125! Sure beats the $285 one stop ticket I could find. If she would of done that in the first place we could of avoided the whole mess.

Anyway I asked her what happens when she gets off the plane. She says, she will get a cab to the hospital. Um Dorothy, we aren’t going to be at the hospital until the day after. I told her I would pick her up and take her home.

Now I can quit worrying that she gets lost wandering around Chicago. But I am still worried the iPad won’t get here tomorrow.

Listening to the new k.d. lang album

that isn’t officially out yet. She has a listening party of it at amazon.com so her beautiful voice is playing in the background while I write this.

I had today off. It is the first day of spring break so I thought it would be nice. My homebody kid didn’t want to go out and do anything. Because I really didn’t have any good ideas of what to do and the weather still favors winter, I didn’t push it. I ended up going to Target by myself to buy toilet bowl cleaner and such. I did buy a bistro table for our new patio. We (me and two Target employees) couldn’t fit the box in my car no way. Ended up unboxing it and putting it in all over the car.

When I got home, I got crabby. Probably a delayed response of Sunday night realizing that my day off is over and it is back to work for me. I am off this Friday where we will be doing something spring breaky, sorta, not really. RAW has his surgery downtown Chicago, right next to the hotel we stay at when we hang in Chicago.

Dorothy is driving him mad and just about took me down with him. We are trying to get her here to drive him crazy while he heals (that is my brainy idea that I will never live down). Anyway, because it is last minute now and only a one-way ticket flights are costing over $700. We proposed Amtrak to her but getting to the train station by 7 a.m. was going to be an issue.

So Dorothy calls today and says she just bought a bus ticket. Eight and a half hours on a friggin bus going the opposite direction to Toledo first. I am like no freaking way are you doing that. RAW’s cousins offered to drive her up here but she didn’t want to endure a 5 hour car drive but she has no problem with the bus from hell for over 8 hours? While she is telling me this, she is still in the bus station while a homeless woman begs her for money. Lovely.

I proposed an alteration to the train idea by telling her to have someone take her to Waterloo the afternoon before to a hotel 5 miles away. Then she can cab it to the train by 7:00 no problem. She then can walk a few yards to the Fox Lake Metra and then walk to our house. Which will be interesting because she is determined to just go straight to the hotel from Chicago but at 9:30 a.m. there will be no hotel.

Now we will have to figure how to get her home. Next week proves to be a challenging week as RAW’s mom babies him into insanity. Good times I say!

I think my new camera lens bit me

this morning when I looked at my toast sitting on my new, gotta have it, plate from Target, I grabbed my camera to take its picture cause it looked so pretty. I got a new lens last week, a 18-270mm whopper so it was on the camera. When I pointed down at my toast with it, the zoom extended out with gravity as those lens often do. I think it was then zooming it back to take my picture when the new lens bit me. I didn’t feel it but do remember something feeling funny. I go to get my milk when I noticed my thumb and that it was starting to bleed. I have what looks like a deep paper cut. It has to be my new lens that bit me. There is no other way.

This week Apple made one of those famous new product announcements. I have been waiting for a while for this one. The iPad 2 comes out next week. The updates are a little meh with the same crappy camera as my iPod touch but I figured that especially when they announced how much thinner the 2  is. I have been holding out for the cameras so it isn’t a deal breaker. It goes on sale next Friday and I will be online to buy one. Not sure exactly why. I have definitely drank the Apple Kool-ade, um yum, its good.

I want to type more but my hands are freezing.
