Grama Lanter Februrary 10, 1919 to February 7, 2012

Mom called me on Sunday to chat and mentioned that grama quit eating and drinking, sleeping erratic and fidgety; they were going to take her to the doctor on Monday.
Monday I didn’t hear anything but thought they would probably put her in the hospital.
Tuesday mom called with the sad news that grama isn’t here any longer. She did go into the hospital Monday and they got her to eat soft foods. She was cranky trying to take the IV and such out but was generally doing better. Mom was visiting her and grama fell asleep so mom left. Before she could get home there was a message waiting for her to get back to the hospital. Mom wonders now if she actually died when she thought she as a sleep.

I took Thursday and Friday off for the funereal. Pam and Cindy, Tim and young kids headed out early Wednesday to help mom with arrangements.

On Thursday I went and got an oil change (and new back brakes and rotars). I was scheduled to pick Paula up at 4:00 from Midway airport. RAW and Hollace would leave Friday. Visitation was Friday at 4:00 and it was snowing. I should of just had them come along with me especially since Emma was there for Hollace.

Friday we were on the hair for a blizzard warning. Where this weather was coming from, you got me because it wasn’t forcasted. Because the Manitowoc van was full of those from Manitowoc I had to drive myself in a blizzard to the funereal home. I was dreading it. RAW and Tim went dress clothes shopping so they went separate. Paula, Hollace and Emma came with me.

Not too many people came to the visitation. That is no surprise since she didn’t really have much friends especially these last few years living at mom’s and of course the weather.
Cousin Jeff and Lynda and the kids were there. Aunts Bobbie and Jean, Delores’s sister and sister in law and us. That was pretty much it.

When it was time to leave it was pretty treacherous as expected. Slow and steady got us home.

Tim, doing the math realized we all couldn’t fit in mom’s house so he got us (him and Cindy and RAW and I) a hotel. RAW stayed back at the house for some reason.
The next morning was sunny and cold. I think we only got less then 4″ of snow, far less then we were expecting. The town over got about 10″.

The funereal was smaller with the addition of cousin Greg. Sherry also came (she lives up by the Manitowoc crew). After services we all went out to eat while dad sat in the car.
Later that day, Sherry and I went shopping. That night we all sat around the house when we heard Whitney Houston died (she was my age) and a full week later, it is still all they talk about on the news.

We all were hoping to go home on Saturday but Paula’s flight wasn’t leaving until 7:35 Sunday evening. The Manitowoc crew decided to stay even though they couldn’t take her home, remember full van. I was crabby over the prospect of staying. I later attributed that crabbiness on my upcoming period (and boy was that one a doozy, one where I actually called a sick day).

The Manitowoc crew all left which left, RAW went off to his mom’s which left Paula, mom, Hollace and me. We went mexican for lunch then we left (5 hours before Paula’s flight). We stopped at an anime store near by then off to the airport.
