Vacation 2010

Stop! Why are we settling for a blah vacation? Last year we did the same thing when we went to Missouri. The initial drive was longer but we stopped at the first State Park over the boarder and ended up staying there the whole week.  I decided, lets pack up and head for Petoskey like the original plan. So on Tuesday, that is what we did.

On the way we stopped in Cadillac Michigan for some eats. First let me mention vacationing with a GPS is kind of fun. We looked ahead at a map and decided that Cadillac would be a good place to eat so I got on the GPS and looked for food there and directed us right to it. RAW was in the mood for Mexican and Hollace was loving the pizza with their flavored crust at Hungry Howies (apparently a local chain). We got her some pizza and an order of to die for Howie bread, set her up in the camper (locked the door and gave her one of our cell phones) in the parking lot of the Mexican restaurant. RAW and I  then went in and gorged on good food.

We got to Petoskey SP at around 6:00. The dude at the desk said there were still two sites open if we wanted to stay through the weekend but we were already planning on avoiding the weekend crowd. Also we knew the last two sites were probably the worst sites so instead we got into the best site or maybe the second best site until Friday. The best site is always booked up but we think the 2nd best site is pretty darn good.

This park is more to our liking. There are trees separating most sites, we like the seclusion. And it is a short walk to the boardwalk to the beach, so much so that we feel like it is our personal porch. Hollace was in heaven with all the stones (which is what Petoskey is famous for.) Lately Hollace has been collecting rocks to make a golem (Hugo rocks!) based on her favorite books FableHaven. With all the stones on the beach I think she is now planning on making a life size golem! At the very least she never wants to leave here. RAW and I are already making plans on planning ahead and reserving site 166 for the whole week next year–a definite difference in attitudes at this site.

Here is the bummer part of this portion of this trip, which is happening as I write this, it won’t stop raining now! It started when we pulled in. It stopped enough yesterday for us to check out the beach then rained all night. I was trying to use my mind to push those rain clouds out to no avail. It is now 10:00. Hollace is still sleeping and it is still raining.
